About · independent, not the hotel

About this guide

A small independent publication about one hotel. Here is who is behind it and how we work.

Illustration, not a photograph of Wrest Point

Who we are

Tower on the Derwent is an independent guide to staying at Wrest Point in Hobart. It is not the hotel's website and is not run by, endorsed by or affiliated with Wrest Point or its owner, the Federal Group. The publisher and advertiser is Mariann Shawaiki, Frankfurt am Main, Germany. The site is hosted on a DigitalOcean server in Sydney, Australia.

How we gather facts

Everything starts with the hotel's own pages — rooms, restaurants, bars, the casino page, the event listings and the FAQ. We read them in full rather than relying on search snippets. Transport details come from the operators (Metro Tasmania, SkyBus, Hobart Airport), and details about MONA, Salamanca Market and kunanyi from those places' own websites. Wikipedia and news reports appear only for history, and are labelled as secondary sources.

Every page ends with a list of the sources used. Where two official pages disagree — opening hours are the usual culprit — we print both rather than choosing one. When something is not published (the size of the Motor Inn rooms, the number of gaming tables, the pet policy) we say so.

What we will not do

  • Invent reviews, guests, quotes or staff.
  • Print prices other than the hotel's published "from" rates, with the date we read them.
  • Use the hotel's logo, photographs or branding.
  • Promote gambling.

About the pictures

The images on this site are AI-generated illustrations made for this guide. They show the kind of view, room or place we describe — they are not photographs of Wrest Point, and nothing in them should be taken as what a specific room looks like. For real photographs, use the hotel's own site.

Corrections

If something here is wrong or out of date, email [email protected] with the page and, if you can, a link to the correct information. We update the page and the "last checked" date.
