We are a hotel guide, not a gambling site, and this page is written that way. It does not explain games, rate anything or encourage anyone to gamble. It exists because the casino is part of the building and part of its history, and guests ask what it is, when it is open and whether they can walk through it.
A short history
The hotel's casino page says plainly: "Wrest Point is Australia's first ever casino. We were born in 1973." The Gala Opening on 10 February 1973 was televised nationally, according to the hotel's history page. Secondary sources record that Tasmanians voted on the casino licence in a referendum on 14 December 1968. The story is on our history page.

Age, ID and dress
The gaming floors are 18+ only, and the hotel's FAQ says certain bars are 18+ as well and valid photo ID may be required. The property-wide dress code applies, and in gaming areas the hotel specifically asks guests not to wear hoodies or helmets over the head. Offensive slogans, bikie colours, swimwear and untidy or dirty clothes or shoes are not allowed anywhere on the property.
If gambling stops being fun
Wrest Point runs a self-exclusion program — the hotel says to ask a security officer. Anglicare Tasmania's Gamblers Help service offers free counselling and can arrange a self-exclusion order that bars a person from gambling areas in Tasmania. Numbers published by the hotel and by Anglicare:
- Gambling Help: 1800 858 858 (national helpline; Anglicare points to it for out-of-office-hours support)
- Anglicare Tasmania Gamblers Help: 1800 243 232
- Relationships Australia: 1300 364 277
