A revolving restaurant is easy to dismiss as a gimmick until you sit in one above water. The Point completes a full rotation, and the hotel's FAQ calls the result 360-degree views from level 17 of the Tower — river, city and mountain in turn. The hotel puts it simply: as the restaurant turns, daylight gives way to twilight and the city lights come up across the river.
The food
The current menu, as the restaurant describes it, weaves classic French technique through Tasmanian produce. The seasonal early-evening menu lists dishes such as freshly shucked oysters, crayfish soufflé, market fish and Cape Grim short rib. The tableside flambé is the part people remember: three signature dishes are finished at the table, and dessert ends with Crêpes Suzette. Two formats are offered — table d'hôte, a set multi-course meal chosen by the chef, and à la carte.
Early evenings
The restaurant runs an Early Evening Menu from Tuesday to Friday with a single 5:30pm seating, two courses at a set price. It is the cheapest way into the room and, in summer, the one that gives you the most daylight on the river. We do not print the price here because offers change; it is on the restaurant's page.
The rules
Smart casual is required. The dress-code page asks diners not to wear athletic clothing or footwear, sporting uniforms or ripped clothing, and asks men not to wear shorts or sleeveless t-shirts. Children are welcome with an adult and must also be in smart casual. If you are coming straight from kunanyi or a day on Bruny Island, pack a change.
Groups and private dining
Groups of up to 20 can book online for instant confirmation; 12 or more are treated as a group with menu and dietary planning. Larger parties can take part of the room for up to 70 guests (dinner, Tuesday to Saturday) or the whole restaurant for up to 120 (lunch and dinner, Tuesday to Saturday, with minimum spends). Sunday and Monday enquiries go to the food and beverage manager.
Dates in the diary
The hotel has published a Christmas Day lunch (12pm–3pm) and a New Year's Eve dinner with live music from 7.30pm, both with set menus that include drinks. Details and prices are on the official Christmas and New Year pages; if you want a room for those nights, request it early — the hotel's FAQ says summer is peak season.
Staying in the Tower and dining at The Point? Mention it in your room request. We cannot book the table for you, but we can ask the hotel about rooms on the same night and remind you to book the restaurant directly.
