The hotel calls the Motor Inn one of Hobart's best-kept value secrets, which is marketing, but the substance is fair: you sleep on the property, park free outside, and walk under cover to the Tower's restaurants, bars and Health Club. The rooms face the leafy mountain side rather than the water.
The trade-offs, stated plainly
- No water view. The hotel describes leafy outlooks, not river ones.
- A walk to everything. Breakfast, the pool and the bars are across the footbridge.
- Lower grade. 3.5 stars against the Tower's 4.5. The secondary-source history of the 2018–2023 renewal says Motor Inn rooms were refurbished in the final stage in 2023.
- Less published detail. The room page gives no size.
Who it is right for
Drivers on a Tasmania loop who need a safe place for the car and an early start. Concert-goers who will be in the Entertainment Centre or the Showroom all evening anyway. Groups booking several rooms for a wedding in the Derwent Room, where the per-room price matters more than the outlook. And anyone staying a week who would rather spend the difference on dinners at The Point and a day at Port Arthur.
The boardroom next door
Business travellers may like to know that the Executive Boardroom — a private room for up to 14 with its own servery and bar — is in the Motor Inn building.
