Wrest Point's own FAQ is direct: summer is the busy season, especially in holiday periods and around major events, and peak rates apply. It names the festivals that fill Hobart — Taste of Summer, MONA FOMA and the Sydney to Hobart Yacht Race among them. Add the hotel's own calendar and you have a season where the good rooms go early.
The dates already published
- Creedence Clearwater Collective in the Showroom, 7.30pm.
- Christmas Day: The Point serves a set lunch 12–3pm; the Waterfront Room has a buffet; Longhorn has two dinner seatings; the Boardwalk Bistro lunch was already listed as sold out when we checked.
- New Year's Eve: fireworks over the Derwent, dinner with live music at The Point, free music in the Birdcage and Casino bars, a DJ in the Green Room.
- Lassù, an adults-only cabaret circus — thirteen performances across three weekends.
- Magic Men (Friday, Showroom), Ben Folds with the Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra (Saturday) and Paul Smith (Sunday).
- DOLLY: I Will Always Love You.
What that means for a room
New Year's Eve at a hotel with fireworks over its own river frontage is an obvious draw; so are the Lassù weekends. If you want a harbour-side Tower room on those nights, request it now and say the date matters more than the category — our desk will come back with whatever is left rather than only your first choice.
Costs that are easy to miss
- Food and drink cost 15% more on public holidays and 10% more on Sundays, according to the hotel — check which of your summer dates are public holidays.
- Christmas and New Year dining is sold at set prices that include drinks — published on the hotel's pages.
- Breakfast is only included on some rates.
Beating the heat — or the wind
The hotel does not publish summer temperatures; its weather notes cover autumn and winter. What it does publish is a heated indoor pool with saunas, the boardwalk deck over the river at the Bistro, and a café open until 2am at weekends. Hobart summers vary, so pack for both.
