The hotel's weather notes give Hobart's winter as 4 to 12°C, with occasional snow on Mount Wellington, and autumn as 9 to 17°C. It also says quieter months often bring more availability and more competitive pricing than summer. Those two lines are most of the case for a winter stay.
Which room in winter
Ask for the mountain side. The view of kunanyi under snow is the point of a winter stay, and the hotel says mountain-side higher floors are generally the quieter ones. The Deluxe Mountain King is on an upper level; the Mountain Twin is on floors 1 to 4.
Keeping warm
The Health Club under the Tower has a heated indoor pool, a 10 m hydrotherapy pool, a spa and saunas, open 6am to 10pm and free for guests. In-room dining runs from 6.30am, and late into the night at weekends. The Boardwalk Café is open until midnight most nights.
Going up the mountain
Snow brings congestion on the road, according to Wellington Park, which also asks visitors to check for road closures before setting out. The summit is 1,271 m; dress for much colder air than in Sandy Bay.
Indoor days
- TMAG — museum, art gallery and herbarium in one, about 10 minutes by car.
- MONA — Thursday to Monday, 10am to 5pm, by ferry.
- Cascade Brewery — tours, about 10 minutes away.
- A show: the Showroom and Entertainment Centre calendars run through the cooler months, including the Queen Forever tour on 5 June 2027.
Dark Mofo
The hotel's list of Hobart's major events includes Dark Mofo, the winter festival. We have not found published 2027 dates on a source we trust, so we do not print any. If you are planning around it, tell our desk the dates you have in mind.
